Understanding Silica Dust and how it affects the work place.

The only effective protection against silicosis is to prevent silica dust in the air. Tools causing dust for example grinders and saws should be fitted with dust extraction devices. Where possible, dusty processes should be fully enclosed and have an exhaust hood attached. Where this is not possible a local ventilation system should be in place with hoses as close as possible to the head of cutting tools. Star Diamond Tools carries a complete line of dust control products to promote worker safety and help protect construction workers from silicosis. Call or email us today for more information on our product offerings.

Why Refurbish, Recondition and/or Polish Concrete?

Some people have been unhappy with certain characteristics of concrete floors for as long as they have been around. They often “dust”, they are porous so they stain easily, the plain gray color is flat and unappealing and they can wear from heavy foot or vehicular traffic. Until recently, the only way to address these problems was to cover the concrete floor. Rugs, tile, hardwood flooring, paint and epoxy have all been used with varying degrees of success to cover the concrete problems. The location in the house partially determines what can be used and what can't. For example, you would not cover a garage floor with carpeting or hardwood flooring. But people have used paint or pigmented epoxy for years to brighten the room, stop the dusting and make the floor easier to clean and resist stains.

Slurry Trap and Separator

The Slurry Trap™ is a 20 gallon closed system that vacuums concrete / asphalt slurry, traps it in a filter bag, and then pumps the filtered water back to the bit / blade for cooling. This significantly increases sawing & drilling productivity by not having to source water or empty the vacuums when they become filled with slurry. In some jurisdictions, asphalt and concrete slurry is considered a hazardous waste material and must be brought to a certified disposal site.
